Make It Funky
Make It Funky
Four years, wow.

First off, thank you - as in you, personally - for your support of Make It Funky. Simply put: this project began as a group interest and public service (enter: altruism). A conduit for spirited, no-frills, low-maintenance parties that bring people together.

If you've attended a function, invited your friends to a party, hyped an event, donated your time, "loaned" money you knew you wouldn't get back, hosted a MIF radio show, rented a generator at 6am, raced "misplaced" power cords or headphones to a dj booth, picked up trash in the dark, lied to a law enforcement officer, gave out all your cigarettes, stored PA equipment in your garage for weeks on end, spilled a drink on a mixer, let us ruin your living room, or sacrificed any hope of a working relationship with your neighbors - thank you. We couldn't have done it without you, in a way you're forever part of Make It Funky. Happy anniversary to us.

Secondly, Terrence Parker. We hoped we could bring someone really special to play music for you. Terrence Parker, "TP", "the Telephone Man", embodies what we're all about. Where to even begin with Terrence? He's so seasoned, talented, and acclaimed no bio would do him justice. Here's a rundown:

- Nouns: producer, remixer, DJ, turntablist, house music pioneer, Detroit, 1980 to present, label boss, OG, double OG, triple OG.
- Adjectives: expert, veteran, award-winning, inspirational, instrumental to dance music history, soulful, prolific (understatement of the year).
- Music: house, techno, soul, inspirational, gospel, vocal, funk, disco classics, and deeeeeeeeep Detroit heat.

Terrence has also become widely admired because he uses an actual telephone handset as headphones; causing some to give him the nick name, "Telephone Man". Others call him the "Telephone Man" because he has answered the CALL to bring us music to feed our souls!

Get involved.
Terrence Parker
Terrence Parker
Detroit has been credited as one of the Soul Music capitals of the world, spawning legendary artists like The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross just to name a few. In the mid 1980s, Detroit's Underground Music Movement has brought rise to artists such as Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson, Blake Baxter, Eddie "Flashin" Fowlkes, UR, Jeff Mills, and a host of others. But unlike the aforesaid names, Terrence Parker has established himself as a producer, remixer and DJ of the classic sound of Detroit House Music, and is known as the pioneer of the music genre known as “Inspirational House Music”! As a DJ, Terrence Parker (known to many as "TP") has become legendary for his quite uncommon yet skillful turntablism style of playing House Music. TP has also become widely admired because he uses an actual telephone handset as headphones; causing some to give him the nick name, "Telephone Man". Others call him the "Telephone Man" because he has answered the CALL to bring us music to feed our souls!

TP's current album entitled “Life On The Back 9” (out now on Defected Records / licensed from Planet E) debuted on the Traxsource Top 100 Album Sales Chart at No # 3, and the following week went to No. # 1. It stayed at No. # 1 for 3 weeks. “Life On The Back 9” has been on the chart since November 2, 2014. Terrence's current new single entitled “Pentecost” (out now on Defected Records) was released on Monday January 12, 2015 as the first release for the label to launch the new year: https://soundcloud.com/defectedrecords/sets/terrence-parker-pentecost-edits

TP has performed as a DJ in 28 countries (more than 200 hundred cities) throughout the world. These events range from night clubs (large and small) to music festivals with more than 100,000 people. Since 1988, TP has released more than 100 recordings on various labels, and has had top 20 hits with his songs "Love's Got Me High" (with 2012 remixes by Marc Romboy and Jimpster), "The Question" and albums like "Detroit After Dark" in the U.K., The Netherlands, Germany, and France.
Terrence’s latest release for 2014 is his album entitled, “Life On The Back 9” released in January on Carl Craig’s Planet E label in Detroit with a new expanded version to be released in November on Defected Records in London. This album tells the story of how he was encouraged by his father to continue on forward by the struggles and challenges of life. The album features the writing contributions and vocal performances by Merachka, Coco Street, Kelly Gunn, and Reno Ka. The album has produces several single releases with remix productions by Carl Craig, Underground Resistance/Timeline, Louie Vega, Josh Milan, Monty Luke, Marc Romboy, Merachka, House Of Praise and Terrence Parker.
TP has also relaunched his Intangible Records imprint for 2014 re-releasing some of his classic productions along with music from new artists like Merachka.

Terrence's high quality of music productions, remixes, and DJ skill has been recognized by organizations such as the Detroit Historical Museum's History of Techno International Exhibit, and Indiana State University's Department Of African American Music And Culture. TP's collective musical works and pioneering efforts have been recognized as a valuable contribution to Detroit's music history, as well as the International History Dance Music.
TP's incredible DJing talents have been heard on radio networks throughout the world such as on Superfly FM in Vienna/Austria, Channel 955 FM’s "The Pulse" (Detroit's No # 1 Pop/Urban FM Radio Station) and FM 98 WJLB's "Club Insomnia" Mix Show (Detroit’s # 1 Hip Hop Station).

Terrence is also a well respected remixer. His most recent remix projects for labels like Defected, Kingstreet, and Purple Music also include projects for indie artists such as I Am X & Coco Street (Donda Recordings), Dantiez Saunderson (KMS Records), Lenny Fontana (Karmic Power Records), Jonathan Kiely & Niall Redmond (Deeptown Music), Nicole Hunt (NoSOULrobot), tlJN & Dudley Strangeways (Frole Records), Light To Motion (BodyTalk Music), Brian Logstrup & Thomas Stiller (Deso Records), Andrew Hartley & Rashaan Houston (Rejoice Records), and Pongo (Astral People Music).TP has also remixed Mark Fanciulli’s, “Sacrifice” on Saved Records/UK, Yotam Avni featuring Chris Dockins’ “That’s What The World Needs” on Seasons Records/USA, and Rotvic’s “Classic Age” on D-Edge Records/Brazil. FORTUNE
FORTUNE
For Michael Fortune, music is the dominant influence on his life. Perhaps it began with his first concert, seeing Earth, Wind, & Fire at age five. Maybe it was starting to DJ and produce events in the 2008. Even though Northern California has remained home, his dedication has given him the opportunity to play gigs in countries like Mexico, Argentina and the Turks & Caicos islands and locally across events like Burning Man and Super Hero Street Festival

Michael's eclectic sets bring together elements of funk, disco, soul, house, indie, krautrock, italo, techno, trip-hop, afrobeat, and latin music bound together by an underlying groove. He has shared the bill with forward thinking artists like Animal Collective, Toro y Moi, Washed Out, Marquess Wyatt, The Juan Maclean, Duke Dumont, Diplo, Matrixxman, Slow Magic, Osunlade, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, and the Dirtybird Records crew to name a few.

What hasn’t changed is his passion for music that brings people together regardless of genre. Today, Michael handles bookings for the Make It Funky collective and also spends time at BFF.fm, a community radio station based out of the Mission District as Promotions Director and the host of a weekly show.
